Our caucus meeting takes place, Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at 7:00pm at Lone Peak High School.
The caucus meeting is a great way to do your civic duty by helping to select the candidates for both State and County offices.
At our caucus we will elect state and county delegates from among the voters in our precinct (Highland 2). These delegates will meet with each of the Republican candidates for either state or county positions. They will then attend the conventions and cast their vote for those candidates who they feel will best represent the party in the General Election. Should these delegates have more than (I think) 60% of the vote, they will be the Republican nominee for that office in November. Should no one receive that amount, there will be a Primary held to determine which candidate will represent us in November.
In many other states, the Republican candidates for the Primary and the General Election are selected by the party leadership and not the average person. This is a great opportunity to make a difference and to become involved in the process.
Registered Republicans and unaffiliated voters are allowed to speak and vote on the delegates. Elected delegates must register as Republicans. All are welcome to attend.
